Overview

Carb Counting: Diabetes Management's Best Friend

As the body of knowledge in pediatrics grows rapidly, healthcare teams face an increasing time commitment, making it challenging to seamlessly assimilate new, specialized guidelines into daily practice. This educational session is designed to bridge that professional practice gap by providing general pediatricians, specialists, residents, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants with the tools needed to synthesize recent advances in diabetes management.

Participants will gain actionable strategies to help patients approach food with variety and awareness. The presentation focuses on building clinical comfort with carbohydrate counting, identifying various fuel sources, and utilizing carb-to-insulin tracking to optimize blood glucose management and deliver the safest, most effective patient care.

Objectives

Following this session, the participant should be able to:

  1. Review and practice carbohydrate counting with patients and other staff.
  2. Identify fuel sources and the effect on blood glucose management.
  3. Utilize carbohydrate counting with insulin in managing glucose.
